The Arctic

The Arctic is particularly threatened by the global climate change. The research in the Arctic is primarily undertaken in Greenland using time series from monitoring programmes implemented at Nuuk in South-West Greenland and at Zackenberg in North-East Greenland (NERO and ZERO) combined with gradient studies from north to south and from the ice edge to the coast in order to study climate effects on runoff areas and associated lake systems. The data is used in model development as well as in the management of the arctic nature areas and their natural resources. The Lake Ecology Section collaborates closely with the Arctic Research Centre (ARC) and participates, via ARC, in the Arctic Science Partnership (ASP).
