Oil and Environment in Greenland

The drill ship Corcovado operated in West Greenland in 2011.

Oil exploration and extraction may adversely affect the environment in many ways, but it is possible to limit and prevent the effects from the various activities.

DCE/Aarhus University's role as a consultant to the Government of Greenland is to advise on the environmental impacts of the activities and how they may be carried out so as to minimise the effects of oil exploration on the environment.

In addition, DCE runs a data centre managing the environmental and nature data collected both in connection with research and by the companies operating in Greenland
