Freshwater Environment

In a constantly changing world, there is enormous pressure on fresh water. In the future, it is vital that we continue to develop an understanding of the biological, chemical and physical processes in and around fresh water.

Fresh water represents only a small part of the global water volume but is essential for all life on land.

Agriculture is the largest land manager in Denmark and the cultivation of fields and livestock production will, to a greater or lesser extent, affect the nature types, hydromorphological conditions, water quality and biological conditions in the aquatic environment and riparian areas.

Through DCE we provide consultancy services for the Danish Ministry of the Environment in the areas of:

  • Nutrient and pesticide loading on freshwater ecosystems
  • Impact of climate change on freshwater ecosystems
  • Restoration of streams, lakes and river valleys
  • Environmental monitoring of freshwater
