What factors control the distribution of lichens and mosses in a semi-arid habitat under drought? (21.08.2015)

Lichens and mosses are typical of very moist habitats, and so are likely to have a restricted distribution in semi-arid habitats such as central Chile.  There are nevertheless many lichens and some mosses common in central Chile.  This project would look at endangered status of lichens and mosses, their relationship to habitat niches including tree species and rocks on which they grow and habitat types in which they occur, and the relationship to water availability.  Field work would be required, ideally before December and/or after March.
