ABSTRACT:
This study looks at fish earbones collected from fur seal scats on Marion Island, how reliably protein can be extracted from these hard remains, and if the stable isotope signatures of the extracted protein is reliable to make ecological interpretations. Furthermore, the utility of these signatures for modelling fish contributions to the diets of higher predators is assessed.
André is visiting from the University of Pretoria in South Africa and works with the Marion Island Marine Mammal Programme. He and a colleague are visiting the Marine Ecology research group with Prof Peter Groenkjaer to learn and apply the protein extraction methods by the group in 2013
