The interaction between plants and insects is an important area of research that can be used to gain a better understanding e.g. of how the influence of plants can have secondary effects on other parts of the ecosystem, or how removal of hedgerows and stone walls can lead to fewer habitats and host plants for insects such as bumblebees and butterflies.

You can read more about this in the reports ”Bestøvningsforhold – og behov i dyrkede marker” and ”bestøvning og biodiversitet” (Danish).

Bioscience is participating in the FP7-project ”STEP”, which examines the decline pollinators in Europe.
